Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee vice president Laal Singh on Monday accused the Election Commission of turning a “blind eye” to the gross anomalies and irregularities being committed by ruling SAD-BJP leaders during electioneering for civic polls in state.

Addressing reporters here, Laal Singh said that it was ironic that despite being highlighted by newspapers and electronic channels, election commission officials were feigning ignorance about any such irregularities. “It seems they have colluded with ruling coalition and deliberately running away from their responsibility,” said Laal Singh.

The senior Congress leader alleged that to capture the MC elections, Akali Dal was using police force to intimidate the congress candidates. A case in point is that of Palwinder Singh Taggar, whom the local police booked on Sunday, he said. Asked to comment upon the growing dissidence in party cadre, he said that every party was facing rebels.
