Another turn in the murder case of 35-year- old Bunty Bajwa, his family has accused Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali to be behind the killing.

Bajwa’s family has sought chief minister Parkash Singh Badal’s intervention in the case and immediate arrest of the rest of the accused.

They have also alleged that the accused were roaming freely in the city and threatening them with dire consequences if they didn’t withdraw the case.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Rajwinder Kaur Bajwa, wife of victim Bunty Bajwa and former sarpanch of Bahardurke village, said the police had failed to arrest the key accused in the case. These included SAD candidate Baljinder Singh, she added.

She alleged that MLA Ayali was openly supporting t he accused and pressurising the police to not arrest the accused.

Retired subedar Kuldeep Singh Bajwa, father of the victim, said their family were SAD supporters for the past five decades and Bunty was a Youth Akali Dal worker.

He claimed that the CM, deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal and Youth Akali Dal president Bikram Singh Majithia were very close to Bunty.

“However, during the MC elections, Bunty was supporting an independent candidate contesting from ward no 1, following which Ayali had threatened him two days before the election. As Bunty was reluctant to change his decision, the accused killed him following a conspiracy,” Kuldeep Singh Bajwa alleged.

Meanwhile, refuting the allegations, Ayali, SAD MLA from Dakha, said he had visited Bunty’s house two days back and expressed condolences to the victim’s family.

He alleged that someone was instigating the family against him.
