The Punjab government has begun action against 21 IAS officers for failing to disclose their assets despite repeated reminders and warnings. The government has sought explanation from the defaulting bureaucrats on failure to submit their Immovable Property Returns (IPRs) for 2011 and 2010 till July 31, which was the extended deadline.

Taking a serious view of ‘indifference’ on the part of Punjab-cadre IAS officers, CM Parkash Singh Badal has ordered to initiate disciplinary action against all such bureaucrats and ensure that they file their pending IPRs forthwith.

A top official told Daily Post here on Wednesday that Personnel Secretary has been asked to seek explanation from all the defaulter IAS officers.

While 14 bureaucrats have not yet filed their IPRs for 2011, the property returns of other seven babus were still awaited for the year 2010. An all-India service officer is bound to file property return by January end. After the expiry of extended deadline to file IPRs for the previous year on May 31, the CM and Chief Secretary Rakesh Singh had given last chance to the defaulters to submit their IPRs till July 31.

With 14 defaulters, Punjab ranked third state after the highest number of 32 defaulters in MP and 16 in UP. As many as 127 IAS officers in the country have not yet submitted their IPRs.

In 2011, the babus who did not file their returns are Himmat Singh (1980), Karan A Singh (1984), Kirpa Shankar Saroj (1989), Sucha Ram Ladhar (1991), Harjit Inder Singh Grewal (1992), Dilip Kumar (1995), Bhawna Garg (1999), Ajoy Sharma (1999), Sukhjit Singh Bains (2001), Inderjit Singh Sandhu (2001), Diprava Lakra (2005), Rupinder Singh Randhawa, Mohinder Singh and Paramjit Singh.

In 2010, Rupinder Singh Randhawa, Pirthi Chand, Mohinder Singh, Paramjit Singh, Harjit Singh, Ravinder Kumar Kaushik and Mohinder Pal Arora did not file their returns.
