Chandigarh : Could it be Sukhbir vs Sidhu at the Ferozepur Lok Sabha seat this time? Though nothing has yet been finalised either by the Shiromani Akali Dal or the Congress, there are speculations that the Ferozepur Lok Sabha seat might see an intense electoral battle between SAD president Sukhbir Badal and Congress cabinet minister Navjot Sidhu. As Sidhu’s is one of the three names forwarded by the Congress from Ferozepur and Sukhbir Badal has not discounted his chances of contesting from the seat, speculations are rife about the two sworn-enemies locking horns in the border constituency.

Sidhu’s name has come in the forefront in Ferozepur since the party has been missing on a prominent face there. But for the Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala seats, where the Congress would be fielding the same candidates as it did in 2014, the hunt for befitting candidates has been a major problem for the party. There are indications that the party would repeat its candidates in Amritsar and Gurdaspur as well, but the stakes involved are not giving an easy feeling.

While cabinet minister Manpreet Badal is supposed to be a front-runner for the Bathinda seat, sources within the Congress say that Manpreet has expressed his unwillingness to contest the seat. The Congress’s struggle for Khandoor Sahib and Anandpur Sahib seats has been no less intense. The Hoshiarpur seat might see Mohinder Singh Kaypee hold the flag for the Congress, whereas for the Sangrur seat the tie is said to be between Vijay Inder Singla and Kewal Dhillon. The Congress high command is scheduled to hold a high-level meeting in Delhi to zero-in on the party candidates in the state on April 2.
