Chandigarh : The Shromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Congress may lock horns in Anandpur Sahib parliamentary constituency, one of the key segments in the state, in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. Both parties are parties are traditional rivals. Although the Congress is yet to announce the name of its candidate, but sources in the party said that the name of the ex- union minister and former MP Manish Tiwari is doing rounds. The Shromani Akali Dal has fielded sitting MP Prem Singh Chandumajra once again as its candidate from this segment. Bir Devender Singh of the Taksali Akali Dal is in fray and Vikram Sodhi is joint candidate of the Punjab Democratic Alliance.
Raghunath Singh is the candidate of the CPM.It is mentioned that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Himmat Singh Shergill who got 3,06,008 votes in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, who remained at the third place, would be the deciding factor this time too. However, the political experts are of the view that there was a wave of the AAP in 2014 elections so, by and large; it had got the SAD votes. But the AAP failed to make its presence felt in the state. So, this time that a particular vote bank could go back to the SAD.The experts said the Taksali Akali Dal candidate Bir Devinder Singh might intrude in the Congress vote bank and surprise both the Congress and the Akali Dal.
It remains to be seen that which way the Gujjar community which dominates the Balachaur assembly segment, would go. Garhshankar assembly constituency falls in Doaba region where there is Dalit community is in majority. So, the impact of sects in the area could influence the result.A project of Garhshankar -Anandpur Sahib -Naina Devi Highway was announced as an election promise by sitting MLA Prem Singh Chandumajra which has not been completed after foundation stone was laid. So, the issue could be raised against Chandumajra.
