‘Akali Dal trying to sabotage Bargari probe, making frivolous plaints’

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress president Sunil Jakhar on Thursday alleged that the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is trying to sabotage the probe into the Bargari sacrilege incident by trying to use the Election Commission (EC).
In a memorandum submitted to Punjab chief electoral officer S Karuna Raju, Jakhar said, “They (Akalis) are filing false and frivolous complaints against the officers probing the sacrilege, who have nothing to do with the process of conducting the elections in the state. Akalis are using the tactic to pressurise and intimidate government officials.”
He said SAD is desperate to regain its lost ground due to the Bargadi incident. “They are trying to mislead people and the Election Commission (EC) under a conspiracy.” He was referring to a SAD complaint to EC against a special investigation team (SIT) member.

Reacting to denial of Congress ticket to Navjot Kaur, wife of Punjab local bodies minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, from Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat, Jakhar said, “Sidhu couple has already given their views, so party has nothing more to say more.”
