Chandigarh : In a sharp exchange of words, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today dumbfounded Union Minister Ms Harsimrat Kaur Badal for asking Congress President Rahul Gandhi to apologise for Operation Bluestar, by countering her with the question whether she had apologized for her great grandfather Sunder Singh Majithia hosting a dinner for Gen Dyer the same day when he had ordered the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
It started with Chief Minister Capt Amarinder asking the British government to tender an unconditional apology for the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. He had rejected the “regret” offered by the UK Prime Minister Theresa May and insisted that the UK government should tender an unconditional apology.
To this Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal and his wife Ms Harsimrat Kaur Badal, almost in similar tweets, asked Capt Amarinder whether he had sought similar apology from Rahul Gandhi for Operation Bluestar.
“Capt Amarinder is seeking apology from British Govt for Jallianwala Bagh Massacre. What about an apology from Gandhis for Operation Bluestar?” Ms Badal asked in a
tweet.
She added, “Punjab CM took Rahul Gandhi to Sri Akal Takht Sahib but lacked courage to ask him to admit the Congress sin of demolishing Sikhs’ highest religio-temporal seat with tanks and mortars. What a contrast with demand for British apology for Jallianwala Bagh Massacre”.
Capt Amarinder in his characteristic style and sharp wit retorted and asked Ms Badal whether she had apologised for her great grandfather Sardar Sunder Singh Majithia honouring General Dyer the same day he had ordered the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre.
Retorting to Ms Badal’s tweets, Capt Amarinder asked her, “Did you, your husband (Sukhbir Badal) or his father, Parkash Singh Badal, ever apologise for your great grandfather, Sardar Sunder Singh Majithia’s lavish dinner to Gen Dyer on the day of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre? He was later knighted in 1926 for his loyalty and his deeds”.
Capt Amarinder has always maintained that Rahul Gandhi cannot be held accountable for the Operation Bluestar since he was a 13-year old kid when it happened.
