AMRITSAR: With Bollywood actor Sunny Deol’s name being pitched as likely BJP candidate from Amritsar constituency for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections slated for May 19, Congress candidate Gurjit Singh Aujla, on Saturday, said he is ready to fight the filmstar if he chooses to contest.

Talking to media on the sidelines of a meet with Delhi SAD supporters and former president of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) Paramjit Singh Sarna at his office, Aujla said he will be happy if the BJP fields a strong candidate against him.

Sunny Deol met BJP national president Amit Shah on Friday. Responding to a query on the matter, the member of parliament (MP) from Amritsar said, “Let people tell who is their hero and son of the soil. There is no use electing someone who doesn’t live in Punjab.”

Sarna, asked the gathering to support Aujla, saying “People of Punjab now know the real face of SAD-BJP. It is the time to show them the mirror,” said Sarna, urging the public to support the Congress candidate.

He added, “During the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Amritsar taught BJP’s Arun Jaitley a lesson. Even this time, whosoever is BJP’s candidate will have to face a severe defeat.”

He also appealed to party workers to spread awareness about the work done by Punjab government in the tenure of past two years.
