MANSA: Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for the mob lynchings in the country by cow vigilantes.

Campaigning for Bathinda Congress candidate Amrinder Singh Rajka Warring at Budhlada, Sidhu said several Muslims have been killed in the country in the name of cow protection under the BJP regime at the Centre, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Accusing the saffron party of trying to buy votes with money power, she said, “BJP thinks that the people of Punjab are fools and they can bribe them to vote for the party. My suggestion to people is take money from them, but don’t vote for them.”

On the candidature of Warring who is pitted against Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal (SAD), the former Amritsar MLA said, “Raja is like my younger brother. The party had earlier decided to field me from Bathinda, but I had taken a pledge to serve the people of Amritsar.”

She added, “I also feared that Harsimrat would spend a lot of money in elections, so why should I leave my home to contest from here (Bathinda).”

On the special investigation team (SIT) probing 2015 sacrilege incidents, she said, “IG Kunwar Vijay Pratap Singh (SIT member) is a very honest officer but Akali Dal leaders made excuses before the Election Commission to keep him away from the probe during elections.”
