Chandigarh : Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, chief of SAD (Taksali) and Khadoor Sahib MP, flayed the Badal family for allegedly ignoring the issues of the state during their 10-year regime.

He said five-time Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had been demanding Chandigarh for Punjab when he was out of power and its political opponent party the Congress at the Centre. But when Badal had his government in Punjab and its alliance partner BJP was at the Centre, he never raised the issue of Chandigarh only to please the BJP, he alleged.

He also blamed Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Union Minister for Food Processing, for the plight of Punjabi farmers. “She claims 41 projects to her credit, but except for a kinnow processing plant in Fazilka, no other big project has been brought to the state. Farmers are still stuck with wheat-paddy cycle. If there is some fruit and vegetable processing unit in one or two districts, more areas can be brought under fruit and vegetables. It can save Punjab from drought-like situation in future,” he added.

He termed the Modi government’s move to pay small farmers Rs 6,000 annually a cruel joke. “It is an insult to the farmers. It amounts to Rs 16 per day, which is too small to even consider a relief,” he said.
