Patiala : Former Union minister and Congress candidate from Patiala Parliamentary constituency Preneet Kaur on Sunday said that if her party’s government is formed at the Centre, there will be a provision for interest-free loans to the youth seeking employment opportunities abroad.

Besides, she added, the party had devised a farmer-friendly agricultural policy, which will boost agricultural economy and ensure an end to farmers’ suicides.

Speaking at campaign meetings in Derabassi assembly segment on Sunday, she said the Congress manifesto had made provisions for the economic welfare of all the sections of the society, particularly the youth. “The focus of our government will be generating jobs and providing job-oriented training so that they become employable not only within the country, but also abroad,” she added.

Preneet Kaur criticised the BJP-led NDA government for failing to generate jobs. She reminded people as how Narendra Modi had claimed that 2 crore jobs will be generated every year. “While in reality about five lakh jobs were lost during the last five years, thanks to the ill-advised and ill-intentioned policies of the Modi government,” she remarked, while pointing out how demonetisation led to loss of jobs across the country and total destruction of the economy, particularly the small sector industry and trade.

Later in an informal interaction with the media, she said the Congress had a dual advantage in Punjab. “While on the one hand people were fed up with the policies of the BJP government at the Centre, particularly the way they messed up with the economy, on the other hand, they were happy with the two years of Capt Amarinder Singh’s government,” she said, adding that while the BJP government at the Centre had played a cruel joke with farmers with a paltry relief of Rs 6,000, the Congress government in Punjab had provided loan waiver up to Rs 2 lakh each and people of Punjab were appreciating and acknowledging it.

Expressing confidence about a landslide victory from Patiala, the Congress candidate dismissed any suggestions about challenge being posed by any of her two main rivals – Dharamvir Gandhi or Surjit Singh Rakhra. “Let me tell you with complete clarity that this is turning into a one-sided fight in favour of the Congress,” she remarked.
