Ferozepur : The election scene is heating up in this border constituency where SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal is pitted against Akali-turned-Congressman Sher Singh Ghubaya.

Ghubaya seems to have shed the “outsider” tag in his newly joined party. Earlier, the two-time MP, who is on a mission to score a hat-trick, had been ploughing a lonely furrow. But with most of senior Congressmen extending their support to him now, his canvassing has gathered momentum.

After initial reluctance, Congress leaders Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi, Parminder Singh Pinki and Hans Raj Josan have also started drumming-up support for him in party’s larger interest which has bolstered his campaign. However, few leaders like Mohinder Rinwa and Anish Sidana have still kept themselves at bay from Ghubaya, to which he claims will not make any difference. Ghubaya, is also banking on support from his “Rai Sikh” community, which enjoys a sizeable chunk of votes in this segment.

Meanwhile, senior Akali leader Janmeja Singh Sekhon claims that Ghubaya was no match to Sukhbir, who would usher unprecedented development in this area.

Though, the SAD camp claims that Sukhbir will win hands-down, however, his absence from the polling scene in his constituency may cost the party dear.

About Sukhbir’s absence, party leader Vardev Singh Mann said, “He has to look after the entire state. People have already made up their mind to send him to Parliament from this segment.”
