Captain orders closure of all open borewells

CHANDIGARH: After Sangrur toddler fell into a 150-feet open borewell on Thursday, chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday has asked the officials concerned to close all open borewells in the state. He also sought a report on the same within 24 hours.
The rescue operation being carried out Bhagwanpur village of Sunam subdivision in Sangrur district on Monday where two-year-old Fatehveer has been stuck in a borewell for the past four days.
“Constantly monitoring the rescue operations by @NDRFHQ, local administration and outside experts, which has reached the required depth & are locating Fatehveer,” Singh tweeted.
Stating that he was constantly monitoring the operation to recue the child, Fatehveer Singh, who turned two on Monday, the chief minister has directed deputy commissioners to ensure no open borewell existed in any of the district and asked them to submit a report within 24 hours.
The child stumbled into the borewell at around 4 pm on June 6, according to his mother Gagandeep Kaur. The rescue team, comprising 26 members of the NDRF, the army and the district administration staff, is conducting the operation.
