AMRITSAR:A day after Punjab cabinet minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa wrote a letter to Akal Takht acting jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh accusing the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Gobind Singh Longowal of “politicising” the celebrations of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak, the acting jathedar on Monday said he has written to the SGPC to “remove all kinds of doubts”.
In the letter, Randhawa said the state government was committed to celebrating the occasion in tandem with the SGPC under the aegis of the Akal Takht, but the recent development in which Longowal went with a SAD delegation to invite Prime Minister Narendra Modi “does leave a sour taste as it smacks of politicising the sacred occasion”.
The acting jathedar said, “To prevent this kind of situation in future, we have asked the SGPC through a letter to depute its two senior members to have coordination with the governments for the celebrations. These arrangements will enhance the coordination between the SGPC and governments and eliminate all kind of doubts in mind on both sides”.
“Right from the beginning, the Akal Takht is making efforts to bring all sides or groups on one platform to celebrate the Parkash Purb. Though there are several differences among us, but we all follow one Guru, so all the differences should be buried while celebrating the anniversary,” the acting jathedar said.
On the statements being made by political leaders over the issue, he directed both the Congress and the SAD to shun this practice “that torpedoes the arrangements being made to celebrate the gurpurb”.
