TARN TARAN: ‘Jan Chetna Sanstha’ (public awakening organisation) on Sunday staged a demonstration against the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann when AAP’s state-wide ‘Jan Chetna Yatra’ reached Tarn Taran.

Members of the NGO shouted slogans against Mann and sought his resignation from the Lok Sabha.

They referred to him as an “irresponsible” leader, who had no feelings for the problems of the common man. Claiming itself to be a non-political group, the protesters carried placards targeting Mann. The placards referred to Mann as a “nonserious” political leader.

During the protest, members of the organisation alleged that Mann had no respect for women.

In this respect they referred to the MP divorcing his wife.

A majority of those in the protesting group were women.

There were also placards that made personal attacks on Mann and alleged that once he had consumed liquor and gone to the Lok Sabha.

Mann had just a few days back dismissed this allegation and termed it an attempt to malign his image and reputation.

Mann was not present with the yatra, which was being led by AAP Punjab convener Suchha Singh Chotepur, who claimed that the protest was staged at the behest of the Akali government.

A leader of the protesting group, Gian Kaur, claimed that they were all part of AAP, but quit the party due to the dictatorial attitude of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Meanwhile, police intervened to ensure that the AAP yatra was not disrupted.

The protesters were chased away by the cops.

Abohar : Congress Legislature Party Leader Sunil Jakhar alleged that hundreds of eligible persons in rural areas were not considered for issuing cards under the Food Security Act since their names did not figure in the lists recommended by SAD activists.

Speaking at a meeting at Dalmirkhera village on Sunday, he said the Reserve Bank of India had approved Rs 14,680 crore credit limits to enable the state government to purchase wheat through different agencies on April 1, but neither arrangements to streamline purchase and lifting nor payments were made within the stipulated period to farmers.

“It visibly appears that the state government keeps on diverting the funds for other purposes as it has not been able to keep its treasuries operative perfectly in the past eight years,” he added.

The villagers told him that Revenue Department staff had not been fair in assessing the damage done to crops and property by untimely rain, there was delay in payment of compensation, also pension was not timely credited to the accounts of beneficiaries under the old-age and widow pension schemes. District Youth Congress former president Sandeep Jakhar and Khuyiansarwer Block Congress president Balbir Singh Danewalia also interacted with villagers who complained that villages too faced neglect in development works.
