Urban Punjab to pay property tax; VAT up by 0.5%

Chandigarh : The Punjab Cabinet on Tuesday approved various tax proposals to mop up additional revenue of around Rs 900 crore per annum. The Cabinet, which met here today, approved the levying of property tax in urban areas. It would generate additional revenue of Rs 360 crore per annum. It would go to the Local Bodies Department and not to the state treasury.

Two months on, ‘Greening Punjab’ campaign yet to take off

Chandigarh: Even two months after the scheme was launched with much fanfare, the ‘Greening Punjab’ campaign has not yet taken off. Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had kicked-off his dream project, which envisaged to spread the forest cover in the state with the plantation of 40 crore saplings in the next eight years.

Amarinder to tour 7 constituencies
