Jalandhar : It was a rousing welcome with loud dhol beats and traditional Punjabi sweets for the first turbaned Sikh MP of UK Parliament, Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi, who reached home in Raipur village of Jalandhar on Thursday. Dhesi flanked by his family and friends back home paid a special visit to Government Senior Secondary School, Raipur and spent time with the students.
Dhesi, who is known for keeping intact his roots with his village and family despite a highly successful life in UK asked the students to never forget their roots. “Go wherever you want and achieve your dreams but never forget your roots”, he said. The elated villagers distributed ladoos while a special honour was conferred on him by the village panchyat at local Gurdwara for bringing laurels to Punjab across the world. SGPC member and SAD leader Paramjit Singh Raipur who is the paternal uncle of Dhesi, his grandfather Swaran Singh and other extended family was elated to celebrate the moment of joy. Dhesi also spent his initial 10 years in Raipur village. Earlier talking to students, Dhesi shared that the government school was constructed by his grand father Swaraj Singh. He also expressed concern over the poor approach road to the school, which he said should be constructed at the earliest.
