World Sikh Organization’s Shergill appointed Queen’s Counsel

OTTAWA: World Sikh Organization of Canada’s counsel Palbinder Kaur Shergill has been appointed Queen’s Counsel. She has been serving as general legal counsel for WSO since 1991. She has been conferred this honour for her exceptional contribution to the legal profession.
British Columbia Minister of Justice and Attorney General Shirley Bond announced that thirty lawyers who demonstrated immense professional integrity, distinction in practice and good character.Shergill has represented World Sikh Organization and the Canadian Sikh community in several important cases, dealing with freedom of religion and the right of Sikh students to wear kirpan in schools.
A prominent member of Sikh community in Canada, Shergill is a Human Rights activist and regularly speaks on human rights and Sikhs issue on various platforms. She currently holds the position of Governor for the Trial Lawyers Association of BC.Lauding Shergill’s appointment, WSO President Prem Singh Vinning said, her appointment was a testament to her dedicated seervice to her profession and community.
The World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) is a non-profit organization with a mandate to promote and protect the interests of Canadian Sikhs, as well as to promote and advocate for the protection of human rights for all individuals, irrespective of race, religion, gender, ethnicity, and social and economic status.
