Moga : District and Sessions’ Judge Karamjit Singh Kang today acquitted India-born Canadian citizen Jagdev Gill in the murder case of former Congress MLA Nachattar Singh Gill, father of former DGP Paramdip Singh Gill.
While agreeing to the defence counsel Ramesh Grover, the judge rejected fresh evidence produced in the supplementary challans and relied upon orders of the Supreme Court to exonerate Jagdev of murder charges.
Grover claimed that investigations were influenced upon by Paramdip Gill after he assumed the office of DGP to produce fresh evidences even as the apex court acquitted all his family members. After the judgment, Jagdev alleged former DGP Gill had misused his power to implicate him in false cases. The local police acted like a private force, he alleged.
Nachattar Singh Gill was allegedly killed by terrorists on September 29, 1991 at his house in Moga. A case was registered against two persons.
During investigations, the names of Gurjit Singh and Chamkaur Singh were included as accused. Gurjit was killed in a police encounter while Chamkaur, still a proclaimed offender, is said to have been killed in a fake encounter.
