Balbir Singh Bath, NRI Affairs Minister Punjab, while presiding over a meeting of the officers of the departments of NRI Affairs, Home, Revenue and Police, has asked the civil and police officers of the state to immediately respond to the grievances of the NRIs so that they are not harassed and their grievances are redressed instantaneously.
Reiterating the Punjab Government's resolve to watch the interests of the NRI fraternity, the Minister said that the government has initiated many new steps for the welfare of the NRIs in the state. In order to safeguard their properties in Punjab, East Punjab Rent Act has been amended empowering NRIs to get their property on rent vacated from the tenants. Moreover, every district in Punjab was having separate revenue court for the NRIs. Besides this exclusive NRI police stations have been setup in 6 districts having predominant NRI population.
One court for NRI population has been opened in Jalandhar in consultation with Punjab and Haryana High Court. Bath has asked sanjay Kumar Secretary Revenue to especially look into the property cases of the NRIs lying pending with the Fast Track Revenue Courts set up for the NRIs and ensute their disposal within a stipulated time frame. He further said that all the land records would be computerized till 31st of March this year. The Minister further said that camps would be organized in 6 most affected districts of the state where on the grievances of the NRIs would be redressed on the spot.
Adding further, he said that dedicated police-stations for NRIs have been established and Exclusive and fast track courts have been set up to resolve their disputes. He said that the government has already done away with the unnecessary but cumbersome practice of filing affidavits in many spheres. He said Punjab had now emerged as the world's the most preferred investment destination with tremendous opportunities where the NRIs could invest in power, renewable energy, infrastructure and industrial growth sector and state government would provide single window service to process their investment proposals.
