Sun Mark Ltd, a UK-based company founded byNRI entrepreneur Rami Ranger, has been given theQueens Award for Enterprise 2011 for the third year in a row.
On behalf of the Queen, Lord Lieutenant David Brewer presented the award to Ranger at a ceremony at his factory in Greenford, Middlesex, yesterday in the presence of Lord Popat, Lord Sheikh, Labour MP Keith Vaz and Ealing Mayor Rajinder Mann.
Sun Mark Ltd is the producers of world class products including Pure Heaven, Royalty and Bullet soft drinks.
Ranger dedicated the award to his mother who brought him up single handedly after his father, Sardar Nanak Singh was assassinated in Multan (now in Pakistan) for opposing the breakup of India on the basis of religion, two months before he was born.
In an emotional tone, Ranger said "As you can see, I did not have a father let alone a rich one, nor did I have an elite education nor the old school boy network to help me in my life, but a remarkable mother who instilled the right values in me and which have become the bedrock of my success."
He also thanked the founders of India for "giving us a secular and democratic Constitution."
"As a result, we are taught to use merit instead of race or religion to surge ahead. We can also integrate in any society quickly and easily."
He also expressed his gratitude to the "British sense of tolerance and fair play, as a result an ordinary immigrant like me can realise his ambitions and become an asset to his family and country."
Lord Sheikh congratulated Ranger for scoring a "hat-trick" by winning the award for the third year in succession.
Lord Popat said Sun Mark was a classic case of a family business.
