Ex- NRI Sabha chief to join AAP, seeks ticket from Jalandhar Cantt

Jalandhar : Claiming sway over NRIs abroad, former NRI Sabha Punjab president Jasvir Singh Gill is all set to join Aam Admi Party (AAP) and is seeking ticket from the crucial Jalandhar Cantonment assembly segment.
United Kingdom (UK) based ex-NRI, Gill has applied for ticket from Jalandhar Cantonment seat, citing his influence over Punjabis settled in countries like US, UK, Canada, Australia, Europe, Germany and the Middle East to name a few.
Hailing from Jamsher Khas village falling in Jalandhar Cantonment seat, Gill claimed that he was approached by the AAP leadership to apply for the ticket.
Notably, the AAP leadership recently released its fifth list of candidates but kept the announcement of Jalandhar Cantonment seat on hold. Sources maintained that the party was counting Jalandhar Cantonment as its safe bet following growing anti-incumbency against SAD-BJP and the delay in the announcement of name by congress.
Though the name of senior journalist Major Singh was at the forefront but the AAP leadership was in no mood to take the final decision regarding this seat. Many prominent names including Indian Hockey’s Golden Girl Rajbir Kaur, Professor Dr Jasvir Kaur Gill, another leading Hockey player Jagdeep Gill, HS Walia, Olympian and IPS officer Surinder Singh Sodhi and Atam Parkash Singh Bablu were also at the forefront from this seat.
Talking to Daily Post, Jasvir Singh Gill said, “I was approached by the AAP leaders to apply from Jalandhar Cantonment constituency. Being ex-NRI Sabha Punjab President, I not only worked for the Punjabi diaspora but also gathered their support, which was crucial for AAP’s election strategy in the polls”, he said.
Gill also maintained that he hailed from a village in Jalandhar Cantonment, where almost every village has atleast two to three members each residing abroad. “NRIs abroad have been demanding that an ex-NRI should be fielded to take up major issues related to matrimonial frauds, property disputes, investment back home and criminal cases by all political parties.
