Centre tells Punjab to remove report from site

NEW DELHI: The Centre has objected to the Punjab government releasing a survey on opioid-dependent population in the state and told it to immediately remove it from its website (http://www.pbhealth.gov.in/ pods.pdf) as the report has not yet been officially accepted.

Panchayats to disburse pensions

Chandigarh: Punjab government has authorised the duly elected village panchayats to disburse pensions and other financial assistance to rural area beneficiaries. According to a notification issued here, the village panchayats would now pay out the pensions and other financial assistance to the beneficiaries belonging to the rural areas which were earlier being disbursed through banks. The government has also issued directions to the District Development and Panchayats officers (DDPOs) to appoint administrative officers, with immediate effect, especially where due to some administrative reasons the panchayats were unable to pay the pensions and other financial aid to the beneficiaries.

Sangrur : Villagers and members of the Naujwan Bharat Sabha (NBS) gheraoed the residence of Gobind Longowal, SAD MLA from Dhuri, at Longowal village today. The protesters alleged Longowal had done nothing to resolve their problems. However, Longowal wasn’t present at his residence.
