LUDHIANA: The Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have shot off letters to the Punjab government urging to take immediate steps to stop “illegal bull races” and other uses of animals ahead of the upcoming Kila Raipur rural games to be held from February 4 to 7 in the district.

Barnala : A suicide victim’s cousin, Kulwant Singh, is unwilling to climb down a tower until two persons, including an Akali leader, are arrested. Kulwant has alleged that the two are responsible for Gurbans Singh’s death. Kulwant climbed a makeshift tower at the grain market in Jagjitpura village on January 25.

SANGRUR: The district leadership of Congress and vice-president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Surinder Pal Singh Sibia, protested against the Bharatiya Janata Party in front of the district administrative complex here on Monday regarding the recent case of suicide by a student of University of Hyderabad. Sibia, along with party workers, protested against the suicide of Rohith Vemula, but oddly enough, he forgot to speak about Rohith’s suicide and rather spoke about everything else.
