Bassi Pathana : Bassi Pathana police booked Balwinder Singh, a resident of Bassi Pathana, for torturing his wife to get more dowry. The case was registered on the complaint of the woman’s mother Kuldeep Kaur, a resident of Raipur village. She said after the two got married on January 26, 2010, the accused and his parents soon started demanding more dowry.

LUDHIANA: In a deal allegedly struck on Facebook, a baby boy was put on sale on the social networking site and finally picked up by a Delhi man for Rs 8 lakh after his maternal grandfather sold him off to a nurse for Rs 45,000. The child has been rescued by police from Delhi.

CHANDIGARH: Heroin smuggling along the international border in Punjab has hit a new high. Border Security Force (BSF) troopers have recovered nearly 145 kg of the contraband from the state's border belt adjoining Pakistan in less than four months of this year. The drug consignment is worth over $130 million (Rs 725 crore in Indian currency) in the international market.

New Delhi : Protests raged for a second day in the Capital today over the brutal rape of a five-year-old as scores of BJP women activists marched towards Congress president Sonia Gandhi's house and broke barricades on the way denouncing the barbaric incident. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj's demand for death penalty to child rapists has got the backing of the CPM which said it was open to the idea.
