The 24th Sikh Games of Australia being organised by Austraia Sikh Game Association started here Friday with jubilation. The games were declared open by premier of South Australia state Mike Rann who was accompanied by Lieutenant Governor Hieu Van.

A group of 100 persons attacked the house of an NRI at Lalton Kalan village on late Monday night, injuring his family members, after the latter lodged a complaint with the civil surgeon against a local doctor for allegedly distributing intoxicating drugs to local residents. The victim family has filed a complaint at police station Sadar.

At least 15 candidates of Punjabi origin, nine of them sitting Members of Parliament, are in the fray for the Canadian federal elections to be held on May 2. Among them are some popular names such as Ujjal Dosanjh, Sukh Dhaliwal, Neena Grewal, Jinny Sims, Gurbax Malh, Ruby Dhalla, Navdeep Bains, Devinder Shourie, Deepak Obhrai and Tim Uppal. Dosanjh, a former Premier of British Columbia, is contesting from the Vancouver South constituency as a Liberal Party candidate. Last time, he had won with a hair thin margin of about 20 votes. Dosanjh is being opposed by radical Sikhs.

The Ambassador of India, HE Ajai Malhotra, reaffirmed on April 13, that "the Indian Embassy would be very happy to bear the air ticket cost for travel to India in the case of any stranded Indian who was needy and was unable to find the funds to do so".

Large number of American Indians joined the worldwide protest against corruption in India, supporting Anna Hazare’s fast for this great cause. In Cerritos Regional Park, Los Angeles, a candle light vigil was followed by a discussion about Anna Hazare’s fast and the current state of corruption in India. Asian American leader and Chairman of USABF and FOSAAC, Kevin Kishore Kaul, said that “success of Anna Hazare’s fast to fight against corruption in India is a victory for all Indian Americans and Indians should see that their country is clean of all ills.”
