The decision to launch NRI cards for Punjabis living abroad so as to identify them for official purposes and facilitate various services to them; has not gone well with a section of NRIs. While talking to DailyPost, a California based-NRI and the president of North American Punjabi Association (NAPA), Satnam Singh Chahal said, “the card was not a welcome move and it will not serve any purpose of solving the real problems of NRIs which they faced back home in Punjab.”

Chandigarh: The Punjab government on Tuesday announced to hold the election of the NRI Sabha in January next. Announcing this, the NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said that the work to revise the NRI electoral rolls would also begin forthwith.

The Punjab Government today decided to launch a card for NRIs to give a specific identity to them, besides offering them a slew of facilities. Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal, accompanied by NRI Affairs Minister Bikram Singh Majithia and former Union Minister Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, asked the NRI Affairs Department to immediately work out the details of this proposal and implement it at the earliest.
