The Indian American population increased in the last decade by more than 80 percent in four southern states – Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky, according to the first set of newly released U.S. 2010 Census data.

Two Indian-American scribes honoured in New Jersey Assembly

Two senior Indian-American journalists were among seven media personalities honoured on the floor of the New Jersey General Assembly by Speaker Sheila Y Oliver.

The scribes were honoured on the occasion of Asian-American Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrations.

Suman Guha Mozumdar, associate managing editor of India-Abroad Rediff and Prakash M Swamy,senior Indian-American journalist, both from New York, were recognised for their "inestimable contributions in the field of media" and presented with House proclamations to the cheer of all the members present at State House in Trenton, capital of State of New Jersey.

Deputy Speaker Upendra Chivukula who moved the House Resolution congratulated the journalists and said they had made a positive impact in their chosen field and demonstrated exemplary dedication and steadfast commitment to journalism.

The resolution was passed unanimously. Chivukula then presented the individual proclamation to the honorees.

Others honoured were: Lito A Gajilan, publisher of The Filipino Express; Lili Greene, chief correspondent of IEPN TV; Byoungsoo Sohn, Abishek Sharma, journalists and Dr Sudhir Parikh, publisher of Parikh Media LLC.

The House Majority Leader Joseph Cryan and Jerry Green, speaker pro Tempore offered their felicitations.

 

Lakshmi Mittal tops UK rich-list for 7th year

Indian-origin steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, with an estimated wealth of £17.51 billion, has retained his position as the richest person in the UK for the 7th year in a row in 2011. However, his wealth declined £4.93 billion during the last one year.
