3 hurt as Akali sarpanch opens fire in Batala

BATALA: Three people, including a woman, were injured when the Jaura Singha village sarpanch opened fire on them over a land dispute near here on Wednesday night. Accused Navjot Singh, who owes allegiance to the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and his aides have been booked for attempt to murder. They all are on the run. Sources said Navjot Singh was at loggerheads with his neighbour Gurdeep Singh over the ownership of a small piece of agricultural land for a few years.

Barnala: Police has registered FIR against 19 persons on Wednesday relating to a fire incident that took place on Tuesday at village Chiniwala in which two persons got injured. Police has booked Akali leader and member of Zila Parishad Pritpal Singh, Jagshir Singh, Balwant Singh, Shamsher Singh, Mander Singh and 14 other persons under Sections 307, 148 and 149 of Indian Penal Code and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of Arms Act, said SHO Baljit Singh Dhillon.
